Not sure @Dannis, like I said earlier, new to this stuff, still finding my way.
Currently we run 2 shoutboxes, 1 is a general weather thing for anyone set at 1000, the other is a members only chat area set at 300.
No problems so far as long as I keep an eye on it & prune when nearing those limits.

Hello and welcome to SimplePortal.

Hmm, have you read our documentation?;area=the_cutoff_tag
Gonna move this to Support, I think.

It would be great to be able to set boundaries to the preview portion of an article on the front page such as [preview] [/preview]
instead of a character count. For example sometimes links get cut off because the urls are too long.
With such an option you could add articles to the front page with much more control.

Please ask if something was unclear

To how much can you increase the limit and still be in the safe zone btw?

Thanks @Skhilled
We don't use Ajax Chat anymore, it is uninstalled but the package remains on our site. Will look at deleting in due course.

Since my last update, we had 1 instance where shoutbox stopped working.
I managed to get it going again after deselecting "Check Custom forms"  in Clean Talk. No issues since.
Our web host thought it was a conflict with the Firewall plug in.

The main thing looks to be - keep an eye on the number of shouts & either prune old stuff or increase the limit.

Cheers all

I used that chat on my site. awhile back. You can find support for it here if you don't already know that:!forum/ajax-chat

Hi again Folks

My situation: New to admin, & very new to SMF stuff, still finding my way.

@Chen Zhen. The Ajax Chat thing seems to be an earlier instance. From the files . .
    version.txt - 0.8.2 SMF
    readme.txt -
     * @package AJAX_Chat
     * @author Sebastian Tschan
     * @copyright (c) Sebastian Tschan
     * @license GNU Affero General Public License
     * @link
The error log file has new entries this year, but I can't see where we might be using it, so I wonder if robots/hackers are checking it out.
Thinking I will move it  to another folder & see what happens, maybe we can delete it without any great consequence.
I could also add it to our robots.txt file. Any thoughts will be welcome.

Meantime I found we had reached max no of posts in both shoutboxes so ran a prune & also changed the auto refresh down to 10.
This has allowed our local members to shout & add links, I have yet to check with our overseas members.

@Ninja ZX-10RR ♦. Thanks, I had found 2 of those threads, both appeared unrelated to our issue. The last one & oldest appeared more relevant.

So, I think the issue is mostly sorted now, a few nagging questions still rattling around.

Many thanks to you both.

re.  hxxps:// is for supporting Simple Portal specifically and not really for helping with edits to SMF files.
Also both forums do not provide support to those that remove copyright links.
You can remove copyright links but official software support stops when you do so.

Here are the support guidelines that were written years ago:

Furthermore all your questions are about removing or changing links.
If you really are so inclined to change or remove all links on your forum, including copyrights from all mods & the forum itself then I suggest you learn to do these edits yourself.
