Any error messages showing in the admin or other logs?

If you look in your admin panel > config > server settings > load balancing, don't change anything, but what are the figures for server load average and does that change with SP on or off?  Again in server settings > caching, is that set to anything and does your server have any accelerators loaded (should display that in the important read me box).
