I'd like some help formatting this block's content. There's an event icon first, then the upcoming event text follows. If the text needs to wrap, it aligns left under the icon, as shown in the attached file. I would like to have text wraps align with the text, much like you'd see with table columns.

SimplePortal does not offer you any options for this -- it will require just a little bit of custom coding.
You'll want to look in function sp_calendar, in PortalBlocks.php

OK. Here you are -- in custom coding. You'll find that block in function sp_calendar in PortalBlocks.php.

1. i would like to have this feature..
2. whatabout not displaying the next xxx days.. but the next xxx events? this would be much more comfortable.. the site design could get crazy if there are many events.. in a few days.

It is a cool idea, and I think you are in the right place for it.
What is necessary is to attact enough interested customizers to get to work on it.
