Standalone Forgets You're Logged In?
« on: October 18, 2010, 09:49:08 PM »
So, I just installed SimplePortal and tried to set it up in standalone mode.  And everything seems to work great except for one little issue.  The portal page never remembers that you are logged in.  It switches to log in if you go into the forum, but not when you go back to the portal.  However, everything works fine if I don't use SimplePortal in standalone mode.

I am using SMF 2.0 RC3 and SimplePortal v. 2.3.2

Thank you in advance!

Do you have local cookies enabled under Cookie Settings in Forum Maintenance?

I just enabled them, but I'm still having the same problem.

I dont' think ccbtimewiz was advising you to enable local storage of cookies.

Here is my question:
1) Is the portal page in a different subdomain than the forum
2) What are your settings for
     * Enable local storage of cookies
     * Use subdomain independent cookies (should be checked if portal/forum are in different subdomains)

Have you tried the SimplePortal documentation?

Ah, oops.  Well, I've tried enabling and disabling both of the cookies options (though only one at a time), but with no changes.

The portal page and the forum are both in the same domain.

Forum: http://www.domainname.com/TESTforum
Portal Page: http://www.domainname.com/index.php

Enable local storage of cookies: Off
Use subdomain independent cookies: Off

That is my current setup.

No difference if you enable subdomain independent cookies, then?

Yeah, the subdomain independent cookies did not seem to do anything.

Here is the link: http://www.markedrp.com/

Using subdomain independant cookies ought to work. Please delete all your cookies from that domain, and try again just to make sure.

I did notice that your portal is at http://www.markedrp.com/ while your forum is at http://markedrp.com/TESTforum/index.php. This will cause a problem if you are NOT using subdomain-independant cookies.

You can also try choosing one domain/subdomain (either www.parkedrp.com or makedrp.com) and using it for both forum URL and portal URL.

Wow, I feel silly.  Okay, I deleted my cookies and enabled the subdomain independent cookies and everything seems to be working now.

Thank you!
