3 sub blocks within TOP BLOCK?
« on: November 29, 2011, 12:28:35 PM »
Hello there,

I loved SP 2.3.4 but only I found top and bottom full page blocks. I also wanted to see pages under categories because pages option is very much strong facility of SP.

I want to add 3 sub blocks (BBC) under top block like:

RECENT POSTS , RECENT TOPICS , Top Poster
1.                       1.                          1.
2.                       2.                          2.
3                        3.                          3
...

Is there anyway to do this?

With thanks looking forward for your early and positive response
with regards
Raji Baloch

I am not certain I understand.
If you want some custom layout of blocks, you may have to
1) create your blocks
2) Use blocks-in-blocks to position them.

I am not sure what you mean about "pages under categories".
Right now, Simple Portal does not have a way to add pages to the menu.
There are mods at simplemachines.org that can be used to add menu buttons for pages or for anything else.

Thanks for your response.

Please have a look at my site
http://baask.com/diwwan/index.php

there are several blocks in LEFT SIDE

I want to place them in horizontal order under top block just like this
http://www.simplemachines.org/

in smf site you are seeing three boxes under SMF TITLE I want to show my three different blocks in this way.

Is there any possibility?

If I want to use them in HTML then I will have to create  a table having three columns but it would not be same as BLOCK Presentation. That's why I want to utilize block facility

Once again thanks for your guidance

With regards

I can see that you have already done some blocks-within-blocks magic in your across-the-top block.

What I am talking about is a very similar thing.
It would be a lot like the example in
the blocks-in-blocks blog post (http://simpleportal.net/index.php?topic=5332.0 ), below where it says
Quote
So you can display blocks 49, 50, 52, and 53 in a custom php block like this:

Only you would use $columns=3. And of course, you would find out the block ids of your desired blocks by checking the URL for each block in your block list.

You would also wish to make sure that the block is marked not to be displayed on any page.
That way, it will only show up within your custom block.
