Help on Shout Box
« on: December 28, 2011, 08:58:32 AM »

I'm a dummy on installing code. Is there someone that will install the code on my site, www.stumpburner.com for a sound when a new shout comes on my shout box?  PLEASE.

  I'm running

??

You have already been given the link for the package that will install the option you wish to have.
Here it is again: http://simpleportal.net/index.php?topic=10205.0

Download the package to your computer & then install that same package to your forum via Admin -> Packages
If you were able to install Simple Portal in this fashion, you should not need instructions to install this plug-in package.
None the less,  here is a link: http://docs.simplemachines.org/index.php?topic=93.0#post_upload

  Error in Package Installation
At least one error was encountered during a test installation of this package. It is strongly recommended that you do not continue with installation unless you know what you are doing, and have made a backup very recently. This error may be caused by a conflict between the package you're trying to install and another package you have already installed, an error in the package, a package which requires another package that you don't have installed yet, or a package designed for another version of SMF.

Firstly the portal is now using version 2.3.4

I'd backup the forum, uninstall version 2.3.3, install 2.3.4 then try installing the package again.

This is a common problem when you have installed several mods.
One mod interferes with another mod's install or uninstall.

But you can handle this.
Especially as, if you check, you will find EXACTLY which tests failed. Find the correct place in the code, so you can do those parts of it manually.

Then, you make careful notes.  Run that uninstall (or install) and you can then take care of the "failed" ones yourself.

For more information on this, please see http://simpleportal.net/index.php?action=docs;area=solving_install_problems under "some install tests failed".
There is also more information on manual installs/uninstalls in the documentation at simplemachines.org
Please to keep this website running, if you like SimplePortal, make a
one-time subscription. Thank you for your support.

Have you tried the SimplePortal documentation?

Are you referring to the Shout-Sounds plug-in for SImplePortal?
If so, you must post questions in its thread: Here
This thread you previously created had nothing to do with a shout sounds option & atm it is not built into SimplePortal, it is a separate add-on (plug-in) for it with its own thread.

READ THE OP

Thanks for that.
Well you got me there?! I think I had too many pages open at once & got confused on that one somehow earlier today.
Oh well.
Although it is still prudent to post questions regarding the mod in its own thread.
