Topic: shoutbox not working

i upgraded forum and simpleportal to the latest version, and now i am noticing the shoutbox isn't working anymore
Anyone got an idea?
i deleted the shoutbox block, but no success

Not working? ... could be many things and impossible to help with so little information - maybe better to give more details.
Also check your permissions settings. Probably best to attach screenshots of your block and shoutbox settings.

From what I can see, your shoutbox is not active. Check the box next to active and click edit.

What Aceman says seems correct - the block is not active.

Also, the shoutbox itself has permissions and settings under the shoutbox admin menu.

First try making the block active (above screenshot) and see if it works. If not, then it could be the shoutbox setup.

Let us know if it works.

i know, its deactive because its not working
i deleted the existing shoutbox, but still the same
when i make an entry, i just see the spinning wheel but thats all, no entry in the shoutbox

If you had the shoutbox working and visible but not showing comments submitted - Im not sure what it could be - maybe someone else can help out.

i think it stopped working after upgrading my old forum and SP to the latest versions
i have no clue either

even creating a new one doesn't solve it

I just had the same problem
the solution was in the language files

DevilJimmy, did you ever figure out what was the difference between the old and the new language files?
I assume there is an illegal entity in a newer language file, which is causing this problem.
But where? And is the forum UTF-8 or not?

the forum was not a UFT-8
For me it was just behind the upgrade
the language files were not adjusted
I just replaced the files with the new
and then my translation made ​​on the basis of the new files
that was my problem solved

delete any translations
put your forum in English see if it works
and then make translations if necessary

Shoutbox uses XML. So I want to explore the possibility that one or more characters in the language file was an illegal XML entity.  If this is the case, it could solve a LOT of mysterious shoutbox problems.

do you mean the old language files from  my old install were not replaced with th enew ones?

Other SP language files need uninstalling and reinstall with new ones (package manager) .. except the default language that comes with it.

Is the new language pack for your language for Simple Portal 2.3.5 available?
If so, please give it a try.
If not, please give us more information about the Simple Portal language file you are using.

As igirisjin said, the Simple Portal installer only includes the English language pack. All other language packs must be installed separately.

Please adjust the auto refresh rate setting of the shoutbox you created to 5 (seconds).
After that, switch to the default theme and test it again.

I just uploaded the new files and removed the old.
The only thing I remember was that the problem was solved when I SPortal.english.php renewed and then a copy of it and made ​​a translation for my language

Have you tried the latest language file for simple portal?
