Standalone not showing user being logged in...

So for some reason when a user logs in the standalone page does not show the user as being logged in, but when the click on the forum link it shows them logged; and of course when they click "home" to go back to the portal it shows them as not being logged in. This is very weird. When I have a user delete their cookies it will show them as being logged in on the portal but it will eventually start doing it again. We're using smf 2.0.5 and even with no other mods installed it will randomly do this also.

Has any one had this problem before? If so how'd you fix it?

Thanks

red281gt

I've tried that fix with no success. At the top at the quick log in area it will show as you need to log in even though you are ( when you go to the actual forum it shows you logged in) also I will not allow you to use the shout box on the standalone page. The user has to go to the forum page then click log out, once they do that log back in the lone and behold the standalone page will show them logged in.

Cookie issues sometimes cause this problem.

Please provide a link to the forum.  And, perhaps, a test login we can use to check this behavior.
* What are your cookie settings (subdomain dependent? independent?)
* What is the path to your SMF forum?  What is the URL of your SMF forum?
* What are the settings for the standalone portal?
* In your standalone portal file, what path do you use for the forum?

Check PM for username.

Our cookie settings are:
Default login Cookie length - 60
Enable local storage of cookies - checked
Use Subdomain inde cookies - not checked
Force cookies to be secure - not checked

The forum path is: /home1/fmfcland/public_html/forum
Forum URL is: www.fmfclandivision.com/forum
standalone portal file has forum path as:
$forum_dir = '/home1/fmfcland/public_html/forum';

As for the actual standalone file nothing was changed except the $forum_dir and adding writeLog(); before sportal_init(true);

I have the same issue except it does not matter if I add this line to my standalone.php file (renamed to index.php and placed in the root folder):

writelog(true);

Navigating to/from the forum from/to the portal page works fine.  I am logged in to the forum, yet NOT logged in to the portal.

AngelinaBelle

I am not sure what you mean by "doesn't show them as logged in"
* I go to the portal page
* I log in, using the account you supplied
* I am still on the portal page
* I see the "Hello" box with the account name
* The Who's Online box shows the username among the Users Online

after a random amount of time if you comeback to the site the user will be shown as logged out but when they click on "forum" link they will be logged in but if the go back to the portal standalone it will show them as being logged out. better yet watch this:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yb19aRSNAr8&feature=youtu.be

Mind you this happens with every member.

TomW

If I try to log into the portal page, using the standard login block, it redirects me to the forum page automatically.  I am shown as logged in on the forum page.  If I go back to the portal page, the screen shows that I am NOT logged in.

Everything works fine in 'Front Page' mode.

I made some progress.  Now, after log in from the standalone portal page, I am not redirected to the forum page.  But it still shows that I am not logged in on the portal page.

This is the setting that I changed:
Enable local storage of cookies:   unchecked

previously it was checked.  Now to solve the log in issue...  It appears that there is an issue with the cookie.  Is there a config change required ?

AngelinaBelle

In the past, I have seen this problem with cookies when the forum index.php file was in a different subdomain than what the standalone portal page was in.  This is fixed by setting up SMF to use subdomain-independent cookies.
Local storage of cookies is preferred.

There are some issues about portal redirect on login -- you can fiddle with that setting, as well.  Whether it should redirect to the forum or stick at the portal page.

When I tested your forum, I did not observe the difficulties you described.  I do not know what settings were in effect at the time I tested this out.
Do you observe this problem from many different PCs or just from one?
From PCs at many different locations, or just from one?
Do all of your forum users describe the same difficulties you describe?

Thanks for your help, AngelinaBelle.  I appreciate it.

red281gt

I ended up unchecking "Enable local storage of cookies" under server settings and renaming the cookie that ended up fixing it.

AngelinaBelle

I am glad you found a solution!  Cookie problems can be very mystifying.
