having troubles with shout, members online and menu block
« on: March 22, 2010, 12:03:29 PM »
Dear SimplePortal

We've just installed your portal on our testsite and i must say, it looks really nice. Compliments!

I am using SMF 2.0 RC3
SimplePortal 2.3.1
Theme: extreme6 by fusilet
errors in error log: none so i cant provide you with these lol
activated frontpage of simple Portal where, shout, members online and menu is activated

shout

Looks nice and this is what we were looking for. But unfortunately the BBc [.img][./img] doesnt work. Impossible to show images in the shout.
We have activated this BBC in SimplePortal, so we do not understand why it isnt working.
Also we would like to add a BBC like [.move][./move]
Could you pls advise us?

Members online

unfortunately all members in the block are shown vertically. We would like to have them horizontally. it is possible because i see you have them horizontally also. can you pls advise us how to fix that?

Menu
Same problem as "members online". Also this menu takes exactly the tekst from Modifications.english.php which looks silly. I get this tekst: 'This is the doneren_button'
Also where can i add new items to the menu?

A lot of questions. I've tried to look for answers on your forum but without succes. I hope you can help me?

Thanks in advance
Kind regards
katrien

Howdy all

is there someone who can help me with the above?

f.y.i. we have tried other portals also and for us the shout is the most important thing. Yours looks really nice, but unfortunately we cant use the [img.] code.

Also members online is important to us. Is there a script i can ad somewhere in the block "who's online" in order to get it horizontally at the portal homepage? We use it as a bottom block...so showing vertically of all the users online is no option for us.

i have looked everywhere on your site, but cant find the solution.

Pls help us. Your portal looks really nice and we would like to keep this one.

If everything looks o.k. on our test forum, we can start upgrading our live forum from smf 1.1.11 to smf 2.0 rc3.

I hope to hear from you soon.

ps if you want to have a look, you're welcome ofcource. In that case pls sent me a pm as our test forum is in maintenance mode.

Kind regards
Katrien

howdy all

problem with members online we have solved.

For the other members: this script works:

After replacing script accordingly users will appear horizontally.

(English of that user is difficult/strange as he sais himself and i am dutch lol..so ik looked over it...sorry)

Pls help us with the [img.] code in the shoutbox?

we still couldnt find the solution for that.

(i am talking to myself lol but i hope other members find the above info usefull)

The smileys or images as you call them should work as they are automatically pulled from the main forum itself.

I don't think the move bbcode is an option in the shout.

As for talking to yourself everyone does that when they get older.

Howdy Brack1

at last i am talking to someone hahaha. I am feeling to young to talk against myself. (i am older as you but no hard feelings haha)

You've helped me find this portal..thanks.  As already said above, this one looks really nice so we are considering to install this portal also on our live forum after upgrading to SMF 2.0 RC3.

But the images pfff. On our overall test forum this tag is working perfect using this code:
. The image appears as it should be.

We have activated this code [img.] also for the shout in admin>SimplePortal>shoutbox>edit shoutbox. But if we use this code to get an image and we push on enter or "shout", nothing happens: no image and even not showing the tekstcode. Nothing happens and all seems to be disappeared.

Our users (9000) use this tag a lot in the shout. Our shout lives! Therefore i hope someone can help us.

Kind regards
Katrien

Here's what I see when I test it on an SMF 1.1.11 forum:
* If I use the [.img] tag pair alone, the shout does not appear
* If I put some other non-whitespace text in, even just a ".", then the shout appears.  You can see this at http://www.rockhallsailingclub.org/smf1test/ps.php

I will ask if this is a bug or a feature.

Have you looked into installing that image as a smiley?

Please to keep this website running, if you like SimplePortal, make a

Have you tried the SimplePortal documentation?

Sorry, I couldn't get to this topic earlier. This is related to prevent empty shouts being posted in the shoutbox. You can find the fix for the issue here:

http://simpleportal.net/index.php?topic=4237.msg27009#msg27009

We'll include that in 2.3.2 as well.
And slowly, you come to realize... It's all as it should be...

thanks!!! problem solved regarding smileys in shout itself!!!

But i hv also tried to fix the problem with [more] according to that topic. (smileys uploaded and added to the smiley file)
Instead of an empty window which i got before, i get after replacing the code nothing..not even a pop-up window :S
I try again next week (littlebit buzzy right now) , perheps i have made an error.

Do you know when next release of simple portal will be released?
I ask this because we really would like to use yr portal on our live forum as well after upgrading from 1.1.11 to 2.0 RC3.

Thanks in advance and have a very nice eastern

You're welcome.

The [more] fix should have worked. You might have made a mistake while making the edits.

2.3.2 version will hopefully be released very soon, but can't give an exact. It's just very soon and includes fixes to both issues. ;)
