Tought by now we would have a readmore tag like wordpress, where i can place it inside any article and has it cut off there,... i don't thing this is what the cutoff tag does now, unless i'm mistaken

As far as I can tell by your description of the wordpress readmore tag, the cutoff tag is exactly the same. The only difference might be the ellipse '...' that is added to every article.

Can you please try to explain what you mean?

wordpress does not set a cutoff limit, you have to use the more tag..

In Simple Portal, lets say i have the cutoff set to 1000char.. and in an article i wanted to cut it off say 20.. will the cut tad allow me to do that ?

Yes.

The cutoff limit is merely a default for if you don't have the cutoff tag...

Also, if you set the limit to 200 and place [cutoff] at 1000, you get the cutoff at the [cutoff] tag.
