Topic: Simple Portal just won't install...

Hello...

I have the latest version of Simple Portal and SMF Version 2.0 RC3... I can install correctly, but it doesn't show the simple portal settings in the Admin Panel. I had this installed before, screwed up my forum and now I need to install it again, but it just won't show up. What could be the issue? All answers appreciated...

(you can create the temp dir manually to install it, if you get problems)

With the whitescreen issue, its possible that its a database issue, although its hard to tell without any sort of error message or debug info. Are there any related errors in your Forum error log after you get that blank screen?

Does Package Manager think SimplePortal is installed?
 
One thing that sometimes prevents mods from installing is a problem with the temp directory within the Packages directory.  The mod Nathaniel linked to gives more details on why this is sometimes a problem.
 
Please try the install again
* If Package Manager says SimplePortal is installed, first uninstall it.
* In the Packages directory, make sure there is an empty directory called temp
* Use chmod to make sure the permissions on temp are 0777 or ( 0755 if your host won't allow 0777 )
* Use Package Manager to install SimplePortal

Yes, I have done this about a hundred times and just now again. Package Manager does believe Simple Portal is installed, but it really isn't. I am not using the default theme, but I do install it to configure with all my themes, if you know what I mean.

You are having a problem with the Package Manager. These problems can affect many different mods. Quite often, Package Manager problems are caused by file permissions problems.  So here are some more ideas to find out if inappropriate file permissions are causing your problem.

Thanks for checking this. The temp problem is a very common Package Manager problem.
 
"Other file and directory permission settings" is another common cause.  So, as a next step, please check the rest of your file permissions.  Sometimes, the Package Manager thinks it has successfully completed an install when the file or directory permissions actually prevented it.
 
For example, it seems as though the Package Manager may have failed to add some lines to Admin.php --
It may or may not have succeeded in adding SimplePortal files like "PortalAdminMain.php" to the Sources directory.
 
When the file and directory permissions have been set appropriately, please use the Package Manager to uninstall SimplePortal and attempt the install again.

Yes, I figured Package Manager was an issue. I went ahead and made all of the file permissions to 0777, than attempted to re-install. It still doesn't want to work, do you have any other suggestions?

Well, its odd. It is all installed now. I suggest if someone has similar issues, Package Manager says SimplePortal is installed, but its not, you should just attempt to install another package, than try SimplePortal, that's what did it for me! Thanks anyways!
