Hey, I have searched this problem but couldn't find anything related.

My problem began after I updated SMF from RC2 to RC3 and SimplePortal to last version (2.3.2).

My homepage opens so slowly, it takes like 150 - 200 seconds to open. If I disable "Board News" block, page opens in one second.

Before these updates I had no no problem with homepage opening, everything was really great. Now, what could be the problem here?

SMF version: RC3
SP version: 2.3.2

Thank you.

Nathaniel

If anything, the upgrade from SP 2.3.1 to SP 2.3.2 should have made that block significantly faster, as the length limiting method was improved significantly.

Do you have extremely large posts being used for the board news entries? (either large before/after being limited by length)

My maximum char limit is 62 and in total a post includes 5000 to 7500 chars.

Just as a test, try a limited boardnews block, limited to one board at a time.

Check the "page created in" stats at the bottom of the page.

See if you can figure out if one of the boards is causing the problem.
See if you can narrow it down to one posting.

Or see if you have the same problem with all boards, all posts.

This can help you resolve the problem.

Have you tried the SimplePortal documentation?

It is already limited to ona board at a time. It always has.

If I let 2 posts to be shown per page, page creates in 2~ to 4~ seconds.
If I let 10 posts to be shown per page, page creates in 10~ to 15~ seconds.

I think, it is not the board or posts that is causing the problem it is code changes SP made on this block.

AngelinaBelle

What value are you using for "Topics to display"?

Are you using a Starting Post ID?

AngelinaBelle

Thanks for the screenshot.
For this screenshot:
1 board
10 topics total to display
no starting post id
3 posts per page

Here are my questions:
How long does the page take to display if you use the block configured this way?
How long does the page take if you use one different board?
How many posts on your database?

Maybe the problem occurs with only one post?

Do you have a test forum where you can run a test version of boardNews?

With this config, the page displays in 2 or 3 secons.
If I use different board whose post generaly has few characters, the page displays in 1 or 2 seconds.
There are 890.000~ posts in my db. (Msg id: 1.542.347)

Problem does not occur with only one post because the content is not static, it changes all the time.

Yes, I have a test forum on my localhost.

AngelinaBelle

This is very odd.

Do you see the same problem in the test forum on your localhost?

Tberk

Yes, I see. I still believe that it is because of the code changes between releases.

AngelinaBelle

If you have made any changes to Portalblocks.php, please attach the file

I haven't made any but I realized that the developers did between 2.3.1 and 2.3.2.

Not to hijack, but to confirm. My news block works fine, either there is arrant code or something is set wrong on your site/host php?
It is not host problem because I get same error on my localhost too.
