mediawiki RSS feed
« on: January 27, 2011, 11:59:14 AM »
Using the RSS feed block, I tried adding my mediawiki new pages RSS feed (I run an SMF + Mediawiki bridge). However, it doesn't seem to work.

my RSS feed is located at the "/wiki/index.php5?title=Special:NewPages&feed=rss" on my domain. Is there any way that I could get this working?

You can try using the full url.  Test the URL at the RSS feed validator.
Can you post the full URL here.

You have the right idea with the rss subscriptions.

Basically the feed is the thing you are subscribing to. The file itself containing information on what is going on.

In my example above, that is an RSS feed, that you then subscribe to so that you always get updates to it.

Well, I say my example above. In reality it has been stuck waiting for approval for a couple of days =/

I cannot see the post you are talking about.
Please post a link to it, so I can ask for help from the site administrators.

I am sorry for the inconvenience.  Some changes have been made here recently because of attacks from Spammers. The team will get them sorted out as quickly as they can.

I can understand about the spammer block, I have been in a similar position myself on another website.

Now, I can see all of your posts on this topic.
I was able to see your URL and the validation.
It is possible that the RSS block is objecting to the slight irregularities in this feed, but I do not know.

I have to conclude that this is one of those cases where SimplePortal's RSS block just cannot handle a valid feed. It doesn't even seem to have any unusual characters. A wikitext feed should be just fine.

I'm sorry to say that SimplePortal's RSS block probably will not be able to handle this feed until it gets a complete rewrite in a future version.
