2.3.3 Shoutbox Problems
« on: February 28, 2011, 05:24:48 AM »

I upgraded my forum to smf2 rc5, and install SP 2.3.3.
Since I did that, only couple shouts appear like it suppose to, after that shouts are not showing up until I refresh whole page ( shoutbox button for refresh is not helping ).
So, if I or user write anything it does not appear until refresh whole page, no matter which browser is in question.

I tried to change settings in shoutbox, but results are the same.
There is anything in error log connected with this.

There are many things that can cause the shoutbox to fail to refresh.
* Javascript turned off in browser -- the shoutbox uses javascript to request the shoutbox updates from the server. So if you have turned off javascript, nothing will happen
* Some other javascript on the page interferes -- perhaps because you have another mod running that uses javascript
* A server-side error -- the javascript requests the new shouts as an XML page, but the server does not send it as it should, and the javascript functions cannot find the shouts on the page.

It can be difficult to trace down the problem to its root.

OK, shouts are appearing now, but...

I create a test forum on subdomain, and it looks that Google Analytics Code mod ( last version, for rc5 ) is creating this problem.
I had that mod before, only version for rc4 and everything was working OK, but now is not.

MrPippoTN says he installed the newest version of GoogleAnalytics (v 1.4), and that solved the problem.

Re: Shoutbox doesnt auto refresh.

Have you been able to try this?

I suggested to MrPippoTN to try that, because on my test site Google analytics mod was creating a problem with shoutbox, but it was version with bug ( they solved that on their support forum ).

I did not try to install that mod again, I just put manually google code in my index.template.php and everything is working now.

I'm glad you were able to solve your problem. I've marked it solved, and notified the team that this is one possible source of problems for the shoutbox -- some incompatibility between the two mods.
