Unknown column 'content' in 'field list'
« on: April 11, 2011, 02:11:53 PM »
Hello All

I recently installed SimplePortal MOD on my forum version 1.1.13 and it looks like it damaged my databse.  I'm now getting this error message and have lost complete access to my admin control panel.  Any idea what the problem may be?  I've attached a screen hsot of the actuall message...

Database Error

Unknown column 'content' in 'field list'
File: /home/board/public_html/12thman/Sources/Subs-SPortal1-1.php
Line: 44

Note: It appears that your database may require an upgrade. Your forum's files are currently at version SMF 1.1.13, while your database is at version 1.1.4. The above error might possibly go away if you execute the latest version of upgrade.php

No complaints before I attempted the install for SimplePortal.  I updated to 1.1.13 on Friday, I beleive.  I tried to install SImplePortal last night.

I cant go anywhere other than the screen you see in the attachment in my first post.  Everthing I do takes me back to the error message.

Can you use your "backed-up" files to run a version of your forum files that does not have SimplePortal installed?
Yes, but I dont know which forum files would that be.

If your smf site is
http://mysite.com/smf/index.php
Then please try
http://mysite.com/smf/index.php?action=admin
Assuming that fails, please read this good advice on rolling back your files to before the SimplePortal install:
http://www.simplemachines.org/community/index.php?topic=400356.0
K@ over at simplemachines.org is a terrific support specialist, and has helped several forum owners get back up and running this way.
Once you get the forum working again, we can talk about the problems with your database. Don't worry.  The problem is only with your simpleportal tables.

Which version of SimplePortal did you install? It seems like the database structure is updated for latest versions of SimplePortal, but the files you are using are old. (Subs-SPortal1-1.php was renamed as Subs-SPortal.php with 2.3 version) I would suggest completely removing the mod, and installing the latest version, 2.3.3. If you removed the edits in index.php, your forum should be useable again.
And slowly, you come to realize... It's all as it should be...

What I had to do was call my web host and have them restore a backup to the day before for it crashed.  Thanks for the willingness to help, but it was easier to just restore it.

Glad that fixed it. In the future, you should be able to more quickly restore your own files from the pre-install file backup, according to K@'s instructions, which can now also be found at http://wiki.simplemachines.org/smf/A_mod_broke_my_forum_what_should_I_do

It may be that you had wound up with bits of more than one Simpleportal installation on your forum.  It is difficult to tell. Please try installing the latest version of Simpleportal.
