SP 2.3.3 & SMF 2 RC5 install did not complete
« on: March 05, 2011, 05:02:48 PM »
Well, maybe I spoke too soon.  The install process appeared to complete successfully - I didn't get any error messages and the Package Manager shows it as installed, but I don't see the new SP menu options in the Admin area.  I FTP'd the server and see that a bunch of files are in the /Packages/temp folder, but none were moved into any of the SMF folders.

This is unusual. When the Package Manager thinks it has completed an install, it generally empties out the temp folder.
This sounds like some kind of permission problem. The Package manager failed to edit SMF files, failed to copy SimplePortal files to where they belong, and failed to delete Packages/temp.

Sorry for the rehash post, however I am having the same issue with SMF 2.0. I am sure it is also a permissions issue but have tried and tried and can not seem to get the right combination. It is frustrating to think that this is holding the whole website up.

Were you able to figure the correct permission settings?

I have tried to cover some of these issues in
http://simpleportal.net/index.php?action=docs;area=solving_install_problems
It can be a tricky business. You need to know what the permissions are, who the file owner is, and what your host permits.
