Problem with HTML tabbed content block
« on: July 05, 2010, 06:59:05 AM »
SMF version - 2.0RC3
SimplePortal Version - 2.3.2
http://www.jinrake.info/index.php

No errors relating to the block in the error log.

I'm using a tabbed content block that shows different content depending on what tab is selected, it works perfectly if I preview it or put it on a page but when it's in a block the content inside the tabbed area doesn't show up. The block references an external javascript and css file that I am using the Global Headers and Footers mod to call. Here is the code I am using in my (top) block:

Code: [Select]
<ul id="countrytabs" class="shadetabs">
<li><a href="#" rel="country1" class="selected">Notice</a></li>
<li><a href="#" rel="country2">Screenshots</a></li>
<li><a href="#" rel="country3">Chat</a></li>
<li><a href="#" rel="country4">About</a></li>
</ul>

<div style="border:1px solid #4d4d4d; width:600px; margin-bottom: 1em; padding: 10px">

<div id="country1" class="tabcontent">
<p>Hello! Welcome to the PvP Planet community and website! I noticed you noticing that our portal has disappeared, but not to worry - this is only because Chair is working on a very sexy new homepage layout with blocks and images that suits this theme! It'll have video content, articles, polls, social bookmarking and many other features! If you're wondering how to interact with the other players and/or members in the meantime, then just click <a href="http://jinrake.info/index.php?page=chat">this link</a> and you will be taken to our XAT chatbox. And if you're wondering when the server will be online - we cannot tell you! It's a secret! So there!</p>
</div>

<div id="country2" class="tabcontent">
<p>Under construction.</p>
</div>

<div id="country3" class="tabcontent">
<p>Under construction.</p>
</div>

<div id="country4" class="tabcontent">
<p>Under construction.</p>
</div>

</div>

<script type="text/javascript">

var countries=new ddtabcontent("countrytabs")
countries.setpersist(true)
countries.setselectedClassTarget("link") //"link" or "linkparent"
countries.init()

</script>

The code is from Dynamic Drive, it is a slightly modified version of the first demo on this page:
http://dynamicdrive.com/dynamicindex17/tabcontent.htm

I'd very much appreciate help getting this block to work, thanks :)

the first par of the code must go inside <head>  and </head> tags:

Code: [Select]
<link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="tabcontent.css" />

<script type="text/javascript" src="tabcontent.js">

/***********************************************
* Tab Content script v2.2- © Dynamic Drive DHTML code library (www.dynamicdrive.com)
* This notice MUST stay intact for legal use
* Visit Dynamic Drive at http://www.dynamicdrive.com/ for full source code
***********************************************/

</script>

so, open your index.template.php and find <head>  and add after that part.

Thanks for the reply, I already have this code in the header part of my Global Headers and Footers mod. I'll try the edit though, and get back soon

well, as far as I know, the global headers and footers do not modified the <head> and </head>  parts,  means  the code will not work because its  not inside <head></head> part

that edit doesn't work, the global headers and footers mod does have the same effect as adding the code between the head tags... for some reason it's not showing anything contained within the <div id> tabs... It worked on tinyportal but i'm doing this for a friend who prefers simpleportal over tinyportal - i dont understand why its not working? :/

welll, it does work on my local forums,   just open your index.template.php

find <head>  and add after this:

Code: [Select]
<link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="http://dynamicdrive.com/dynamicindex17/tabcontent/tabcontent.css" />

<script type="text/javascript" src="http://dynamicdrive.com/dynamicindex17/tabcontent/tabcontent.js">

/***********************************************
* Tab Content script v2.2- © Dynamic Drive DHTML code library (www.dynamicdrive.com)
* This notice MUST stay intact for legal use
* Visit Dynamic Drive at http://www.dynamicdrive.com/ for full source code
***********************************************/

</script>

then create a html block with the following:

Code: [Select]
<ul id="countrytabs" class="shadetabs">
<li><a href="#" rel="country1" class="selected">Notice</a></li>
<li><a href="#" rel="country2">Screenshots</a></li>
<li><a href="#" rel="country3">Chat</a></li>
<li><a href="#" rel="country4">About</a></li>
</ul>

<div style="border:1px solid #4d4d4d; width:600px; margin-bottom: 1em; padding: 10px">

<div id="country1" class="tabcontent">

var countries=new ddtabcontent("countrytabs")
countries.setpersist(true)
countries.setselectedClassTarget("link") //"link" or "linkparent"
countries.init()

</script>

keep in mind that I linked to the original source files:

<link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="http://dynamicdrive.com/dynamicindex17/tabcontent/tabcontent.css" />

<script type="text/javascript" src="http://dynamicdrive.com/dynamicindex17/tabcontent/tabcontent.js">

if somehow that site is not avaliable, your script will not run, to avoid that, just upload  tabcontent.css  and tabcontent.js  to a folder on your server and change the url appropriately
